2013 Curatorial Projects

JUAN ORRANTIA at the GALERIE POLL STIFTUNG May 2013

WHAT IS (NOT) THERE? STORIES OF AFTERMATH FROM COLOMBIA AND MOZAMBIQUE. Through evocative photography and multimedia installation, and drawing on ethnography, the filmic essay and captured soundscapes, Orrantia’s projects explore different aspects of postwar/terror experiences in Colombia and Mozambique. The three projects brought together in this exhibition presented a powerful meditation on violence, memory and (dis)location.

CHIAPANECO at the GALERIE POLL STIFTUNG June 2013:

Chiapaneco, an exhibition of indigenous photography from Chiapas, accompanied by screenings of films from the region. Curated by Yulia, in collaboration with the RE team, the exhibition showcased the culmination of a year long project in dialogue with photographers and filmmakers from Chiapas. Participants included Maria Sántiz Gómez, Ronyk, Liliana Lopéz Lopéz, Genero Sántiz Gómez, Abrham Gómez Vasquez, Amelia Najoj, Xun Betan ad Cresencio Vázquez Lórenzo.

FLORENCE AIGNER at the GALERIE POLL STIFTUNG July 2013:

Yulia funded and facilitated PERIPHERIES AND BORDERLESS NARRATIVES, an exhibition of Aigner's work. Aigner’s photography explores the peripheries of perception and cross-cultural encounters by way of an intuitive assemblage practice. In breaking with structured, transcultural narratives, Aigner’s work proposes a mesmerising, poetic juxtaposition of time, place, material cultural and lived experience.
